In Year 6, the children have been learning all about Remembrance Day and the importance of the poppies. They have made these poppy wreaths as a symbol of remembrance for the First World War.

6th November 2020

Here are some pictures of the children in Early Years and Key Stage 1 who did some fantastic homework in the October half term. As you can see some children still had their homework pieces in school so were able to show them for the photo.

3rd November 2020

Yesterday, year 1 started their new topic, What’s in the box?

A mysterious box was delivered to our classroom and the children predicted what it could be. Some predicted slides, a bouncy castles and a tarantula! … it was a toy box!

Yesterday afternoon, Mrs Mills visited our class today to show year 1 her favourite toy. Meet William, Mrs Mills’ teddy bear who she has had for 42 years! The children asked lots of questions and were excited to learn about William. They found out that Mrs Mills’ Grandad brought this for her when she was the same age as them when he was on holiday in Blackpool! For those of you that can remember it was from the Woolworths store! Mrs Mills’ Grandad also built engines for the Spitfire  in World War II. As you can see William is a very treasured bear.

Mill Hill would like to say a big thank you for your generous donations to our harvest collection. As you can see this year’s donations have been one of best. The food has been split into two hampers, one has been delivered to Swan Bank Church and the other to St Michaels who offer a Wednesday pantry where over 100 people are fed each week. Both churches were over the moon with our family’s generosity and would like to send their thanks.

Congratulation to our raffle prize winners, who were picked out of the hat by Mrs Mills.

Year 6 enjoyed the start of their Viking topic, making Viking longboats. The thought and creativity that went into these was amazing and they all look great! I’m sure the Vikings will have travelled across the sea successfully on these boats. Liam also went above and beyond and made a fantastic long boat at home as part of his homework. Well done Liam and all of Year 6!

28th September 2020

Last week, Year 6 had the chance to dissect lambs’ hearts as part of their Science topic ‘Animals Including Humans’. The children thoroughly enjoyed this experience and learnt a lot about what the heart looks like and the features of a heart. We are very proud of them all for their mature attitude to this exciting practical activity.

Year 6 Leavers Poem

15th July 2020

Dear Parent/Carers and Children. For your information, we will be fully staffed next year but, we would like to let you know about two members of staff that are sadly leaving us at the end of this week.

Miss Tabbinor joined the Academy last September to cover Mrs Bagely’s maternity leave in RB. Miss Tabbinor has done an amazing job this year and is a really valued member of staff. She really has encouraged and supported the children in RB to excel and to be ready for year 1. She has loved being part of the Mill Hill community with staff, parents/carers and children. We wish her well for her new job in a first school in Biddulph. Good Luck Miss Tabbinor!

Mrs Farnell joined the Academy 5 years ago teaching in year 2. More recently she has led the nursery team whilst Mrs Donnelly has been on Maternity leave. Mrs Farnell is an outstanding teacher who has always gone above and beyond for the children – she is also a lovely lady, who is thought of so highly by her colleagues. Although Mrs Farnell only spent a short time in nursery her impact has been noticeable and we all thank her for encouraging and supporting our youngest children. Mrs Farnell leaves us to set up a new life with her family in Wales. She will be very much missed but, we are also very happy that her plans have now come to fruition. Good luck Mrs Farnell and happy travels!

Kind Regards

Dear Parent/Carer,

It’s the time of year that we would be reviewing applications for Head Boy and Head Girl, Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl and the Prefects.

Due to the current situation, we will be doing this in the first two weeks of September. If your child would like to apply for any of these roles, they may want to think about their application over the next couple of months.

To apply they will need to complete the attached application form and bring this with them when we reopen on Wednesday 2nd September. If successful your child will also have to deliver a 10 minute presentation which reflects why they want the role and what they have to offer.

Dear Parent / Carer,

We have collaborated with the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution to learn about parents’ beliefs about their children’s education.
Please follow this link to complete this survey by June 26th, which takes approximately 15 minutes to complete and consists of 33 questions: https://surveyhero.com/c/CUEBrookingsUK

Your study participation will help us better understand what parents believe makes for a good quality education for their children.
By completing this survey, you will be entered into a lottery to win the equivalent of a $100 visa gift card (that will be worth approximately £80 when converted – this is an international study) from the Center for Universal Education.

Thank you in advance for your contributions.

10th June 2020

Dear Parents/Carers.

You may be aware that the school uniform shop will be open from Tuesday 16th June. At present, the Government has issued no guidelines on how schools will reopen in September. For this reason and for the financial pressures that many of you may have been under during this time, we will continue to operate a non-school uniform policy from September. So, there is no need to purchase a new school uniform for the September start. We will hopefully relaunch our school uniform in the near future but, will of course give parent/carers plenty of time to purchase it.

Take care

The Mill Hill team.

10th June 2020

Wow, please take a look at the beautiful and creative clay sculptures and masks the children have made.

10th June 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

From the 1st of June our schools started to reopen to pupils in specific year groups identified by the DfE, in addition to continuing to provide places for children of key workers.

To date the DfE and our Academies have worked together to provide a food parcel service alongside the voucher scheme for children eligible for free school meals.  Due to the reopening, the DfE have now changed the way that the voucher scheme will work to reflect pupil attendance at school.  Voucher amounts will now be based on how many days your child has attended school.  Where meals are taken in school the vouchers provided will be reduced to reflect this.

For example if your child is in school for 5 days a week, they will no longer be eligible for a voucher as food will be provided on site. If your child is on a phased return and attends school 2 days a week, a voucher will be provided for the additional 3 days.

To allow us to correctly adjust the vouchers to reflect the meals provided in school we will be issuing vouchers on a Friday after the school week has come to a close.

If you have any questions or concerns about these changes please contact the school office.

 Thank you and take care

We are always thinking of all our children and parents who are currently home schooling and we really miss not seeing you – hopefully this time will come soon. Dear Parents/Carers. We have an update on the free school meals voucher scheme. There have been issues with the Government portal which has resulted in many of you not receiving the vouchers. Due to this, the Trust’s email address finance@citylearningtrust.org has been inundated with emails from four schools. They have found it very difficult to get back to you all and they send their apologies. They are working hard to resolve the issues and all being well this will be sorted for next week. Whilst this issue is out of our hands, we have ensured that those eligible for free school meals have received food parcels this week. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Take care. The Mill Hill team.

28th April 2020

Dear Parents/Carers. We are receiving a number of calls regarding the free school meals vouchers. We have passed on all your queries to the City Learning Trust and would encourage you to email finance@citylearningtrust.org for more information. The Trust have informed us that all the details have been passed onto the Government Portal. It is this portal that is now very slow to get the emails out. Can we please ask Parents/Carers to check their inbox and junk box for an email from Edenred and check that we have your correct email address. Whilst you are waiting to get your vouchers you will receive a food parcel this week.

Colleagues at the City Learning Trust have been looking into the FSM vouchers. It does seem to be the case that the vouchers have now been sent to all parents/carers that we have an email address for. It is possible that email vouchers have gone to spam / junk folders or that parents/carers are looking for an email to come from the Academy which isn’t the case.

We would encourage parents/carers to look very carefully in their email folder and to read the subjects of those emails. If any parents/carers still cannot find their vouchers please ring the Academy tomorrow between 8am and 3pm.

  • Please can all parents who have not yet signed up to Dojo check your emails during today (it may go to your junk mail, so please check there as well) and follow the link and sign up. This will enable you to contact your class teacher for support and also see what work has been set for you.  Please do not forget to look on the Mill Hill Primary Academy website daily on www.millhillprimaryacademy.coop and go to the learning tab/homework and look for your child/ren class for daily homework and also check out the useful website for children.
  • To spread hope during this unprecedented time we would like children to produce a rainbow to place in your windows. Please then send a photograph to school to keep us all smiling. We will share some of your lovely work.
  • Be aware of scam emails…..We have been informed that some parents have received an email stating the following: ‘As schools will be closing, if you’re entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we’ll make sure you’re supported’.  We can confirm that this is a scam email and is not official. We urge parents that if you receive any emails like this, please do not respond, and delete it immediately.PLEASE NOTE: The email that you recieved referring to free school meals last week was from the City Learning Trust and was legitimate.

Dear Parent/Carer, We do hope that you, our children and your families are well during these unprecedented times. We are still managing to stay open for our ESSENTIAL key workers and we would encourage parents where possible to keep their children at home. There are learning resources on the Academy website and Dojo. We can be currently reached on our Academy email address millhill@millhillprimaryacademy.coop or 01782 234466 until 3pm, however please only contact us in an emergency or of you need any help from the WISH team, as we do have limited staff on site. Please follow the government instructions and stay safe.  From the Mill Hill Team x

Dear Parent/Carer,

It is with a very heavy heart that we have had to close the Academy today. Staff have been very emotional and we will really miss not seeing our children over this period.  All Parents/Carers that are key workers have been contacted about provision. Further details will be emailed to you. We are here to support our essential key workers, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need us.  Please encourage your children to keep in touch with their teachers via Dojo.  In addition, please visit the Academy website (learning/homework tab) for learning resources that will be updated daily. From all the Mill Hill staff, please follow the Government advice. Take care of yourselves, each other and our community. Thank you for your ongoing support.  The Mill Hill Primary Academy Team x
